MONAGHAN GOES UNNOTICED IN NEW YORK
-Posted by: Quivi

MICHELLE MONAGHAN loves living in New York - because she never gets recognised on public transport. The actress is rarely spotted by movie fans so she often takes advantage by roaming the streets and travelling on the subway without hassle.

She says, "I'd die without that subway. Honest to God. I always think that I don't really look like I do in my movies.

"I think you probably might not recognise me if you saw me walking down the street. Or maybe they do in New York and people just don't say anything, which is awesome. But yeah, I haven't run into that problem."

AN 'EYE’ FOR AN EYE

Nobody can say we weren't warned.

From the first appearance of clunky, papier-maché computers in film and TV, the message has remained the same: Eventually, the technology we've invented will try to kill us all.
"Going back and looking at those movies, you realize there's a lot of cautionary tales out there," he says. "But one of the things that's different now is that we're all sort of techno-geeks now." Who among us, he points out, does not have at least one digital addiction?

In Caruso's film, out Friday, the protagonist/geek is Jerry (Shia LaBeouf), a slacker twentysomething who finds himself under attack by every computer, digital display and cellphone around him. He discovers he's being forced to carry out an assassination plot, along with another victim (Michelle Monaghan) - but neither can figure out how one person could seize control of every bit of technology in the country. ... Time Warner Inc.'s ``Sex and the City,'' the film version of the television series, had $55.7 million in ticket sales at U.S. and Canadian theaters this weekend, ousting last week's top film, ``Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.''

Walt Disney Co.'s ``The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian'' dropped to fifth place from second with $13 million. The film is the second based on the books by C.S. Lewis. In the movie, the four Pevensie siblings return to Narnia to free the magical kingdom from the reign of an evil king.

"Trucker" a breakthrough for Monaghan
-Posted by: Quivi

Film buffs may have recognized Michelle Monaghan's appeal in such movies as "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," "North Country" and "Gone Baby Gone."

But she hasn't had a chance to carry a movie until "Trucker," which had its world premiere at New York's recent Tribeca Film Festival, and makes us realize what we've been missing.

Her performance elicits the same exhilarating sense of discovery that surrounded Sally Field's breakthrough in "Norma Rae." And there are some parallels between those two characters. Monaghan's Diane is a bruised, ballsy woman who's made something of a mess of her life. She goes through a transformation during the course of the story and emerges as strong rather than merely tough. Although the film doesn't have the social import that made "Norma Rae" a hit, it's an affecting, small-scale film that could catch on with sophisticated audiences as well as more down-home types. ... Made of Honor Review

The movie then skips ahead 10 years to discover this obnoxious Lothario living high in New York City off the millions he has made from his invention of the paper-cup sleeve. When the latest bimbo to grace his bed wonders the morning after their hookup if she will see him that evening, he snaps: “I don’t do back-to-backs. Two nights in a row; I don’t do that.” He also lives by the 24-hour rule: Never call a date until a full day has passed.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as they say. Tom’s wealthy father (Sydney Pollack) has been married and divorced so many times that he can’t recall whether his new wife is his sixth or his seventh. He is shown dressed up and heading toward the altar while frantically negotiating a pre-nup by cellphone with his bride-to-be, who circles the block in a limousine with her lawyer.

The only sign that Tom has a heart is his strictly platonic friendship with Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), a fresh-faced director of acquisitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art whom he has known since college. The two are such good pals that when Hannah tells him she has to go to Scotland for six weeks, he whines, “How can I live without you?” ... Read More ...

Monaghan takes wheel in trucker, friend roles
-Posted by: Bob

NEW YORK -- Three weeks after wrapping "Made of Honor," in which she plays the well-scrubbed best friend-true love of the equally well-scrubbed Patrick Dempsey, Michelle Monaghan got behind a big rig (sans makeup, save some bronzing) for the low-budget, independent film "Trucker."

The movie, which premiered last week at the Tribeca Film Festival, in search of distribution, was just the sort of no-frills experience "Made of Honor" was not.

"Made of Honor," which ... Read More ...
